Privacy Policy
Last Updated: June 2026
Welcome to the Privacy Policy for Colloc. Your privacy is important to us. This document explains what data we collect, how it is used, and your rights regarding your data.
1. Data We Collect
When you use Colloc, we collect the following:
- Account Information: your email address, a unique User ID, and your chosen username.
- User-Generated Content: the articles, drafts, and tags you write and publish.
- Activity: your reading history, the articles you like, the writers you follow, and your search queries.
- Usage & Device Data: analytics about how you interact with the app (e.g., screens visited, features used), a device/app identifier, and an approximate (city-level) location inferred from your IP address.
2. How We Use Your Data
Your data is used only to:
- Operate the app: display your content, manage your account, generate translations and search results, and let others interact with your published writing.
- Authenticate you: securely sign you in and protect against unauthorized access.
- Improve the app: understand usage trends and improve performance.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for cross-app advertising or tracking.
3. Third-Party Services
We rely on the following providers to operate Colloc. All data is encrypted in transit.
- Supabase: authentication, database, and file-storage hosting.
- Vercel: hosts the colloc.app website (the web app and public pages).
- Resend: delivers authentication emails (one-time login codes) to your email address.
- OpenAI: receives your article text and search queries to generate embeddings, translations, and search results.
- Google Firebase (Analytics): collects app-usage statistics and a device/app identifier.
4. Data Deletion
You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time — in the Colloc app (Profile → Delete Account) or on the web at https://colloc.app/delete-account. Your data is hidden immediately and permanently deleted after a 14-day grace period; you can cancel by logging back in before then. The only exception is a limited amount of content and associated identifiers (such as the user ID and email address linked to removed content) that we are legally required or permitted to retain for safety, legal, or law-enforcement purposes (for example, records of content removed for serious violations), which we keep in restricted storage only for as long as that purpose requires. Where content is subject to an active legal or safety matter, we may temporarily defer deletion of the related records and will notify you; deletion then completes once the matter is resolved. To prevent a banned account from being re-created, we keep a one-way, irreversible hashed form of its email address for as long as the ban remains in force. Where necessary to address illegal content, we may share relevant information with law-enforcement or child-safety organizations, which may be located outside your country (for example, the U.S. National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC)).
